Psalms For Tuesday November 4, 2008

Pray for the victims, families, and all the heroes of the 9/11 catastrophes. Always pray for our troops all over the world. And continue to pray for all the hurricane victims and their families.

How long wilt thou forget me, O Lord? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
Psalms 13:1

Despondency Turns to Assurance

One thing sure--David was very human. His emotions sometimes varied widely between despair and hope. As we behold his depression, we sorrow with him. We have been through some of it, too. No one can stay on top of the world all the time.

David complained that God had forgotten him, but He hadn't. It just seemed that way.

Have you ever felt like God had just simply forgotten you? When was it? Was it the time you lost your job and the bills continued to pile up? They just wouldn't stop. Was it the time your marriage hit the rocks and it seemed that all hope had vanished for a Christian home? Was it the time your kids rebelled and left home? You thought you were going to die.

But remember, God really never forgot you--or any of us. Our problems blurred our vision for a time; our tears blinded us to the God who was always there. In the midst of a storm, we cannot see very far, but the unseen objects are still there. It is only our eyes that fail us, not God.

David took his questions and doubts and laid them at the feet of God and waited. How admirable. How noble. What do we do with our nagging doubts and gnawing fears? Too often we are tempted to tell everyone else--except God. We parade them and publish them for all to see. How much better it would be if we with reverence and prayer presented our questions to God and searched His Word. Then we could get answers and rejoice.
