Psalms For Saturday September 6, 2008Lord, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? Questions of Divine Acceptance This is life's most basic question. Who is acceptable to God? Who is permitted to abide in God's tabernacle? Who can have fellowship with Him? The answer is found not in census but in character, not in rhetoric but in right, not in mere profession but in many proofs. The answer--a classic on real religion--embraces ten practical particulars, as follows: 1. The upright: "He that walketh upright" (verse 2). 2. He who is right with God and man: "And worketh righteousness" (verse 2). 3. The truthful: "And speaketh the truth" (verse 2). 4. One who guards his tongue: "He that backbiteth not with his tongue" (verse 3). 5. The person who treats his neighbor properly: "Nor doeth evil to his neighbor..." (verse 3). 6. The individual who regards men according to a moral standard: "In whose eyes a vile person is condemned" (verse 4). 7. He who honors the righteous for what they are: "But he honoreth them that fear the Lord" (verse 4). 8. The one who keeps his word or contract, despite its pain: "He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not" (verse 4). 9. The man who does not oppress others in his greed: "He that putteth not out his money to usury" (verse 5). 10. And he who cannot be bribed: "...nor taketh reward against
the innocent" (verse 5).
