Psalms For Monday November 3, 2008

Pray for the victims, families, and all the heroes of the 9/11 catastrophes. Always pray for our troops all over the world. And continue to pray for all the hurricane victims and their families.

Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is Lord over us?
Psalms 12:4

Who Is Lord Over Us?

Rebellious people are really stubborn. No one, not even God, is allowed to tell them what to believe and how to live. They are determined to be the sole masters over themselves. Mighty big talk! How brave are some people in fair weather; but, oh, how pale they turn at the clap of thunder.

The rebellious spirit is often the main cause for some people's turning to atheism. They drive themselves into infidelity by their desire to be free of any restrictions or rules. The proposition that the Lord exists implies that He is over man. This means rules for man, and rules are sure to be broken occasionally. Man's falling short of the precept may produce guilt feelings and fear; but instead of overcoming the discomfort with faith and resolution, some seek relief in no faith and no pattern. By deciding that God is a farce and the Bible is a fable, they find consolation in becoming freethinkers. Believing there are no Divine requirements to meet, they feel they can never commit any divine violations to distress them.

Playing god by deciding there is no God is a self-deception that brings self-destruction.

Blind unbelief is sure to err,
And scan his work in vain;
God is his own interpreter,
And he will make it plain.

-William Cowper
