Psalms For Friday November 7, 2008

Pray for the victims, families, and all the heroes of the 9/11 catastrophes. Always pray for our troops all over the world. And continue to pray for all the hurricane victims and their families.

Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the Lord.
Psalms 14:4

Have They No Knowledge?

The question expresses wonder at the folly of evildoers. Their witless shortsightedness bewilders thinking people. Don't they know better? Do they think they can escape the reaping?

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind.
--Hosea 8:7

The ignorance of atheism is incredible. Workers of iniquity should learn from observation and experience. As they endure pain, suffer sorrow, surrender in defeat, and fret with frustration, they should perceive that an Eternal Refuge to which man may fly is too necessary not to be true.

As seen in the text, those who reject God reject His people--attack them, eat them up. They try to confirm themselves by condemning the godly. They point to good people's inconsistencies, mock at their shortcomings and make fun of their weaker moments.

This is unfair, for example is harder than precept. We can preach a perfect gospel, but we cannot live a sinlessly perfect life. The spirit of man is willing, but the flesh is weak. This was true of Abraham, David, Peter and Paul.

And it is true of us.
